Free the Terrorists, Torture the Mugger!

March 12, 2007

The women had an interesting discussion on the horrific mugging of the 101 year old and 85 year old women in New York.

Rosie has concluded “I hope they catch this guy and I hope they tattoo on his forehead ‘I punched a 100 year old women’ and then they send him to jail and have a nice life there, buddy.”

Rosie is calling on the men in prison to go after this guy when they catch him. It is interesting to hear liberals hope anyone has a tough life in prison but looking for vigilante justice within prisons seems irresponsible. I wonder if some ACLU lawyer will take Rosie on when some incarcerated moron beats the guy up.

Segue to their discussion on Alberto Gonzales:

According to Rosie the people in Guantanamo Bay have been stuck there for four years while our government looks the other way. These poor guys are being tortured, they don’t have access to habeas corpus, and they are all getting fat because they are over fed (she didn’t actually say that, but they are all getting fat)…

Let us be clear: Our government is not looking the other way. Our government recognizes the danger these men pose to our country. These are not citizen soldiers fighting for a country. These people are enemy combatants who do not follow any of the rules soldiers are required to follow under the Geneva Convention. People really should read the Geneva Convention and the Torture Memos so they can understand how important this discussion actually is to the future of our country.

The Patriot Act is another matter: the government does need to have the ability to protect the country from terrorists but we should be very careful when allowing the government to usurp civil rights of Americans to safeguard that security.

One brilliant person, probably Abraham Lincoln, reasoned “The Constitution is not a suicide pact” when he suspended habeas corpus during the Civil War.
Another brilliant man, Founder Benjamin Franklin stated: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.” (In a liberal slip, Rosie butchered the quote stating “You know what they say- ‘Anyone who would sacrifice security for liberty deserves neither.’”)

In her ongoing comments about the evils of the Patriot Act, Rosie states “The Constitution has worked for 200 years and you shouldn’t mess with it.” Who knew she was a strict constructionist.

If only liberal activist judges would have taken Rosie's position and left the Constitution alone for the past 40 years…
