Rosie On O'Reilly

Thursday, April 26 (cont.)

Next they brought up Bill O’Reilly:

***

Joy: And then you have people like O’Reilly, who hate your politics and that gives him a chance to talk.

Rosie: He didn’t hate my politics until we inadvertently brought up his scandal and then he called the show and threatened that if we ever brought up anything about his scandal again he would put us in his crosshairs- crosshairs was the word he used. I was like this is this is Tony Soprano crap, you know what I mean? If it was James Gandolfini I would have actually been afraid but it was only Bill O’Reilly…

***

The O’ Reilly scandal to which she refers occurred in October, 2004 and was settled with a confidentiality clause the same month.

Rosie wrote on her blog on April 1st about an incident in which she was directed by someone to cease talking about O’Reilly’s personal issues. This direction came after she and Joy spoke about the matter on the View. This blog entry, (Click here to read) available for viewing at presents an interesting glimpse into Rosie’s mind:

“Parsons was Winston’s fellow employee at the Ministry of Truth. He was a fattish but active man of paralyzing stupidity, a mass of imbecile enthusiasms—one of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom, more even than on the thought police, the stability of the Party depended.”

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought?… Has it ever occurred to your, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?… The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact, there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking—not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.

PEACE OUT

O’Reilly has been railing about Rosie for ages. His concerns about her far left positions go back ages, however as she has begun to take increasingly extreme positions he has, like many, many others, begun to express a deeper concern.

O’Reilly was on the View last year on October 18th. He tried to engage Rosie in a discussion about the war and she wouldn’t answer his question as to whether she wanted America to win the war in Iraq. Her response:

***

Rosie: Listen, it's like saying do you believe in God or the devil. If you're not with us, you're against us. That's antiquated thinking, Bill. Peace and harmony

***

O’Reilly cleared stated his belief that Rosie was a secular-progressive who bases her positions on emotions rather than facts or what’s best for the country. He stated his support of her right to hold her opinion but he clearly didn’t agree with her politics then and he doesn’t now.

Who knows what O’Reilly said to the producers at the View about Rosie and Joy talking about his “scandal” but if he did use the term “crosshairs” it wasn’t meant literally. He would have clearly been indicating his attention to play tit for tat. If Rosie goes after his personal life, he will not hesitate to go after hers.

O’Reilly should not passively allow her to try to deflect attention from her behavior by going after him personally. He very fairly comments on her positions as they are presented on the View. Her diatribes are fair game and why she takes offense when he or anyone else comments on them is ludicrous.

Additionally, O’Donnell puts her personal life in play all the time with her regular discussions about her relationships and her family. O’Reilly keeps his personal life and his family out of the spotlight. If he begins using his family to promote his career he would be opening up his family life for public scrutiny.

By the way, she wrote the blog entry on the 1st of April stating that she wasn’t to mention O’Reilly’s situation again. Here she was on April 26th mentioning it again…
