Here's Hoping the Madame Used Invisible Ink in Her Little Black Book

Elisabeth is pregnant- lots of confetti. Congrats to her and her family.

Recap of last week:

Barbara and Rosie have been friends for years… the truth is the truth… the media and all the white ken dolls on Fox think they caused Rosie to be ousted… Anyways, Barbara and Rosie are friends and that’s that.

On the DC Madame:

Rosie: The Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias has resigned from his job before the Madame with the black book starts naming names. This is gonna be fun.

The women then have some discussion about the Madame’s book, which most likely includes Republicans, Democrats and people from all walks of life.

The women who worked for the Madame had to be college educated. Some were even professors. Perhaps the Madame felt that educated women would be more likely to keep secrets as they had more to lose. Maybe more educated women were better able to attend functions as credible dates because they were more able to fit in with and converse with other attendees. Maybe those who purchased services wanted to be able to talk to their “dates” so education played a role in their willingness to pay top dollar.

Clearly there will be many people in Washington on pins and needles over the next few weeks and months, waiting to learn if their name is made public. There will also be many wives waiting to see if their husband’s name is on the list. Wow- what fun! Children whose parent made a mistake will now be shamed by their parent’s behavior- even more fun!

I’m a little surprised that Rosie seems to think this situation is even a little bit funny. This is a tragic reminder that those who lead us are fallible.

While it is amazing that politicians and other public figures think they can get away with engaging in questionable behavior, even if it is legal, it is still unfortunate that news groups release some of this private information. They don’t publish these stories to benefit anyone- this is really all about the bottom line. Not that I am against people making money: I am not.  I just think it is unfortunate that reporting on positive situations and events can't be just as profitable.

The story about the rant Alec Baldwin directed at his daughter is a great example of this as well. That story is sad and personal, but people eat it up. TMZ, in this case, made the decision they thought best for their bottom line. I am sure their bottom line is thankful.

ABC and 20/20 now are faced with a similar decision: should they put private information out to the public? If the answer is “yes” they should, will they limit it at all? I am guessing that there will be more than a couple of careers and marriages headed south in the next few weeks.

Here's to hoping that those not named will learn a lesson from this situation.  No matter how enticing these women may seem, they are not worth the potential loss of a family and a career.
