The women got a little political today, however the gloves are staying on.
On the debate between the Democratic candidates, a very funny kick off line:
***
Joy: I thought Hillary was so far ahead that even Bill wants to date her again
***
Joy thought she was "beautifully put together" but took issue with Hilary's statement that Americans are safer today than we were on September 11th.
Elisabeth reminded everyone about the root of her comments- John Edwards likening the war on terror to a bumper sticker and then Griffin jumped in to explain what he meant:
***
KG: It means the administration is trying to sell you a bill of goods That we're living in a culture of fear and that's what drives us and it shouldn't drive us
***
Elisabeth then tries to assert that we are safer because of the Patriot Act until the Rosie-like KG says:
***
KG: That doesn't keep us safe. That violates our human rights
***
The Patriot Act should raise concerns for Americans but the baby should not be thrown out with the bath water. It would have been interesting for Elisabeth to ask Griffin what provisions, exactly, does she think violate our human rights. It would have been great to see her demonstrate her talking point was rooted in some knowledge about the actual Act.
The fact is that in order for our government to protect us from the threat of terrorism, which has been growing for decades- not 6 years- it will have to dig deeper than it did before September 11th, 2001. That doesn't mean that the government should be unchecked in its power.
People like Griffin would be the first in line to call for the impeachment of Bush if the administration failed to stop another terror attack. What if the JFK attackers had succeeded in destroying the airport and the neighborhoods in the area. Would there be complaints that Bush should have known? Rosie and her minions would be saying Bush was one of the co-conspirators, trying to improve his ratings and hoping for a way to funnel more money to Haliburton.
When Joy goes on to say that 31 attacks have been foiled and the women discuss that more people hate Americans today...
Is there a possibility that the inability of America to fight this war in a traditional way, because of the media, has prolonged it and actually undermined the success of the effort?
Is it possible that the humanization of terrorists by the far left and the blame America rhetoric has spawned a group of people who buy into the "America deserves what it gets" philosophy.
When I watch the news and see report after report about all that is wrong with the war and RARELY IF EVER reporting on all of the good happening in neighborhoods in Iraq I have to wonder why the media so selectively chooses its stories. Of course I know the answer- politics.
I would have liked to see an exchange about when HRod said the first thing she will do if elected is bring the troops . What a panderer she is. Obama smartly jumped in and said that he would bring the troops home if nothing had changed. I am sure HRod kicked herself all the way home for not adding the caveat first.
Which brings us full circle to Hillary's promise to let Bill Clinton rove the world...
