The Hot Topics started out with a rundown of Idol Gives Back. Elisabeth explained how great the program was and that she made repeated donations. I watched it with my kids and think it is great that the show demonstrates the power of the PRIVATE SECTOR to make a huge difference in the lives of people in the United States and around the world.
I was also happy to listen to interesting exchanges between my 11 year old and 9 year old daughters about HIV/AIDS, who repeatedly expressed concern that no one seemed to talk about the fact that the best way to stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS is to teach people that 1- people who carry the virus should NEVER have sex with an uninfected person, 2- that women with the virus should NEVER have sex if they are able to become pregnant, and 3- the best choice is for people to not have sex unless they are married and they know their spouse does not have the virus.
Both of my daughters seem to understand that, barring those who spread the disease through drug abuse related needle sharing, abstinence would virtually end this virus and save the world billions of dollars in health care costs...
